Common Laboratory Services Charges

Laboratory tests are generally performed on blood and urine samples but can include other specimen types as well. When performed on a routine basis, lab results can help patients and providers monitor for health concerns and diseases. Prowers Medical Center offers extensive diagnostic laboratory testing, performed by certified Medical Technologists.

Most lab tests, including those for general health and emergencies, are performed in-house. Pathologies and other specialized tests are sent to reference laboratories. Turnaround times for in-house lab tests are typically less than 1 hour, whereas samples sent to reference labs take an average of 3-5 days to obtain results.

The lab is prepared for routine outpatient transfusion and trauma situations, and keeps 18 units of red blood cells and 20 units of fresh frozen plasma stocked in its blood bank.

Tests Provided

The Prowers Medical Center Laboratory is certified by CLIA (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments) which ensures the accuracy, reliability and timeliness of patient test results. We maintain this certification by consistently meeting the regulatory guidelines developed through the state as well as the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

In December 2020, the Prowers Medical Center Laboratory was given a Zero-Deficiency rating by CLIA for the third time in a row.

Our Lab offers extensive diagnostic lab and pathology tests, including common tests such as renal panel, lipid panel, liver function, metabolic panel, glucose tolerance and others.

  • Phlebotomy for all age groups

  • Hematology – Complete blood counts on routine patients, emergency patients, in-patients and oncology patients

  • Chemistry tests for kidney function, liver function, electrolytes, therapeutic drug monitoring, thyroid, cancer markers, cardiac markers and diabetes testing

  • Tests for pregnancy, mono, flu, strep, RSV, drug testing and urinalysis

  • Microbiology tests including aerobic culture for wounds, body fluids, urine, sputum and throat

  • Molecular testing for meningitis, COVID, sepsis, gastrointestinal pathogens, STDs (sexually transmitted diseases), MRSA (Methicillin Resistant Staph Aureus), vaginal pathogens and prenatal care for Group B strep

Equipment

Recently, The Prowers Medical Center Lab updated several pieces of equipment and traveled as far as New York to obtain proper training. The new instrumentation complimented by the knowledge of the staff ensures accurate results are continuously provided to our community. Some of the newest equipment utilized in the lab include:

  • BioFire Torch – Microbiology
  • BD Phoenix – Microbiology

Prowers Medical Center Health Fairs

We are proud to offer community health fairs for the public onsite at Prowers Medical Center. During 2024, we will have one month, every quarter, dedicated to low-cost screening labs to help you monitor chronic conditions, or get that annual check-in on your health.

From 7 – 9 a.m. every Wednesday in January, April, July, and October, patients can receive a wellness screen for $25.
