A long time Texan, Dr Johnson obtained his undergraduate degree at Texas A&M University.
He completed medical school in 1997, obtaining his M.D. from the University of Texas Medical
School in the Texas Medical Center in Houston. He then did his surgical training in Little Rock,
Arkansas, where he was voted outstanding Chief Surgical Resident. Dr Johnson then worked
as a private practice general surgeon for 18 years in Texas, primarily in the Austin area. Dr.
Johnson then worked as a traveling surgeon for the past year and a half, enjoying the small
town, small hospital environment.

As part of being a traveling surgeon, Dr Johnson has worked at several locations in rural
Colorado and has enjoyed this atmosphere. With that knowledge, he is ready to settle in one
location and dedicate his surgery practice to a single rural location where an available and
dedicated surgery practice can make a real difference. Dr Johnson enjoys a “bread and butter”
general surgery practice. This includes upper and lower endoscopy, hernia surgery, surgery
for gallbladder disease, and bowel procedures. In addition to the hospital based procedures,
he enjoys clinic procedures including “lumps and bumps,” biopsies, and other office based
surgical needs.

His overall surgical philosophy is patient based, including looking at the patient as a whole.
This includes the realization that the best decision for the patient may or may not include surgery.

Outside of his surgical practice, Dr Johnson enjoys activities including hiking, birding, kayaking
and other outdoor pursuits. In addition, he enjoys reading and attempting to produce food that
is edible on his grill and smoker.
