In honor of Doctor’s Day on March 30, Prowers Medical Center is celebrating our dedicated team of providers who offer integral services to our community. Now more than ever, their service and hard work is valued in keeping our community safe and healthy. We appreciate everything you do!
Despite the challenges induced by the pandemic this past year, the providers at Prowers Medical Center have stayed strong and continue to put the community’s needs above their own, providing excellent care and making invaluable sacrifices.
National Doctor’s Day is on March 30 and is a day that is important to celebrate each year to honor local healthcare heroes. The holiday first started in 1933 as an annual observance of appreciation for those in the healthcare profession who change and save lives every day.
“We are committed to providing our patients with the best care possible, and that starts with having the best team of providers to care for them,” said Karen Bryant, Chief Executive Officer at Prowers Medical Center. “Our hospital’s primary focus is to ensure we have a diverse team that offers services to patients, keeping them closer to home.”
With this diverse provider team, Prowers Medical Center patients have access to big-city healthcare in a rural setting.
Primary Care with a Personal Touch
The small-town nature of Prowers Medical Center allows providers the opportunity to build relationships with their patients. With this repertoire, health and wellness habits are easier to foster than in larger cities or at a larger hospital, in which patients may not get a chance to form a relationship with their Family Medicine provider.
Shelby Casper, Nurse Practitioner at Prowers Medical Center Clinic, said Family Medicine providers are trained and well-equipped to handle a wide variety of issues due to the nature of wearing many hats in a rural community. We are grateful for our providers’ full-scope approach!
“We have a strong sense of community here,” Casper said. “We’re really here for our patients, and it’s an honor to have that position. All our providers are working toward the same goal of making our community a better place by improving the health of those who reside in it.”
General Surgeons Offer Best of the Best
General surgeons are trained to diagnose and perform common surgeries for disorders affecting everything from the abdomen to blood vessels. At Prowers Medical Center, our surgical, laparoscopic and procedural interventions are provided through the use of minimally invasive and endoscopic techniques.
Prowers Medical Center is proud to have General Surgeon Dr. Christine Bogardus as part of our stellar team. She completed her medical training at Touro University College of Osteopathic Medicine and is a member of the American College of Surgeons, The American College of Osteopathic Surgeons and the American Osteopathic Association.
“We are invested in taking care of our community because we are a part of it,” Dr. Bogardus said. “Being a part of the Prowers County community allows us to best meet the needs of those around us.”
More Orthopedic Offerings Than Ever
The advanced surgical suites available at Prowers Medical Center are designed to accommodate leading-edge surgical and visualization equipment — a premier working environment for top-notch orthopedic teams.
Dr. Ryan Carr, Visiting Orthopedic Surgeon at Prowers Medical Center, is dual fellowship-trained in shoulder, hip and knee surgeries, and he visits with patients on-site every other Monday. Based in Denver, he brings his expertise to Lamar to consult our orthopedic patients, developing treatments and performing surgeries alongside Physician Assistant Dan Klepacz.
“My goal is to bring big-city orthopedic services to you in Lamar,” Dr. Carr said. “The goal is for the program to grow as much as necessary to meet the needs of the community.”
Full Range of Women’s Services
From birth to adulthood, our incredible Women’s Health providers at Prowers Medical Center offer care for patients in every stage of life. Services offered by our nationally recognized team include comprehensive obstetrical care, gynecological care, labor and delivery, newborn resuscitation, breastfeeding training, prenatal counseling, post-partum care, tubal ligations and many others.
OB-GYN physicians on staff have about 30 years of experience and are certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and all registered nurses have many years of experience taking care of obstetrical patients and newborn babies.
“We have the training to compete with any larger hospital,” said Julie Hobden, New Beginnings Birth Center Manager at Prowers Medical Center. “Care is delivered with a personal touch — patients aren’t just another number here. We care for our patients and their families as if they’re our family.”
