Accessing Experts Virtually

Emergency Department trauma room with gurney, surgical overhead lights, and crash carts

The Prowers Medical Center Telemedicine program brings specialized healthcare to our community from experts via telecommunications. The program helps us expand our services to better meet the needs of our community.

Telemedicine robotics includes a portable camera, microphone, and computer for live, two-way video conferencing that can go right along a patient’s bedside. By connecting to the computer, remote specialists are virtually in the room with the patient, their family, and Prowers Medical Center staff. Specialists utilize the robotics to examine patients and monitor them. At Prowers Medical Center, our telemedicine robot is named Mr. Roboto – and he’s here to help our patients get the care they need.

Currently, we partner with experts in neurology, stroke care and psychiatry who guide physicians and “visit” with patients remotely via two-way video conferencing at Prowers Medical Center. Patients with stroke symptoms that arrive in our Emergency Department can be assessed immediately by neurologists specializing in stroke. With this information, our emergency physicians can quickly and accurately treat stroke patients in the ED – eliminating or reducing long-term impacts on patients.
