Prowers Medical Center Rehabilitation Gym with workout equipment for patients to use

Rehabilitation helps people recover from surgeries, heart events, illnesses and injuries with an end goal of reaching each individual’s maximum potential. Our rehab department offers acute, swing bed, home health and outpatient services.

Prowers Medical Center is proud to offer comprehensive rehabilitation services in a 2,500 square foot gymnasium. This space allows patients to move comfortably and receive skilled therapeutic intervention from certified occupational and physical therapists. In addition to our large gymnasium, private treatment rooms are available to ensure patient confidentiality and modesty.

The rehab team consists of doctorate trained physical therapists, a masters-level occupational therapist and a masters-level speech-language pathologist. Team members hold certifications in blood flow restriction therapy, dry needling, functional capacity evaluations, athletic training, advanced musculoskeletal physical therapy and lymphedema management. Many therapists are bilingual. The Rehabilitation department provides over 12,000 visits annually.

Therapy is provided for the following common needs, among others:

  • Orthopedic injuries and conditions in the spine, shoulder, elbow, hip, knee, ankle and foot

  • Sports medicine

  • Communication disorders including cognition, speaking, understanding and hearing

  • Wound care

  • Workers’ comp

  • Chronic headaches

  • Vestibular rehab

  • Hand therapy

  • Swallowing/voice difficulties

  • Lymphedema

  • Neurological disease such as MS, Parkinson’s and traumatic brain injury

  • Adaptive equipment training

  • Home/office accessibility assessment

Meet the Rehab Team

Darren M. Robbins, PT, DPT

Darren earned his undergraduate degree at Brigham Young University, Provo, UT in 2002 and his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from the University of Utah, Salt Lake City, UT in 2005. He is originally from San Jose, CA and joined the Prowers Medical Center team in August 2005. He is married to Amber Hall and they have five children Abby, Brooklyn, Jace, Tank and Izzy. His clinic specialties include orthopedics, wound care, and sport specific training. He is also a certified Athletic Trainer and has extensive training in sports medicine including on-site athletic coverage. He enjoys wakeboarding, hunting, fishing, and volleyball.

Nick R. Durst, DPT

Nick graduated from Utah State University in 2006 with his Bachelor’s degree in Pre-Physical Therapy and his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from A.T. Still University, Mesa, AZ in 2010. He is originally from Springville, UT and joined the Rehabilitation Team at Prowers Medical Center in October 2010. Nick has certification to perform Therapeutic Dry Needling, Blood Flow Restriction training, Functional Capacity Evaluations, custom orthotic fitting, and has received training in the use of the SFMA (selective functional movement assessment).  He enjoys the outdoors, and coaching community youth soccer leagues.

Travis Hall, DPT

Travis was born and raised in Lamar, CO.  He served a two-year mission for his church in Honduras, Central America, where he became fluent in Spanish. He completed Bachelors degree at Brigham Young University and his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree at the University of Utah. Travis is a certified medical interpreter with Spanish, and has completed specialty training with Functional Dry Needling, Functional Movement Systems (SFMA), and is certified to place foot orthotics.  He resides in Lamar with his wife, Jessica.

Jeannie Cooper, OTR/L

Jeannie earned her BS in Occupational Therapy from Pacific University in 1994. She is originally from Oregon and has been with the Rehabilitation Department at Prowers Medical Center since July 2006. Clinical specialties include lymphedema treatment, nutrition, wellness, geriatric rehabilitation, home safety, and splint fabrication. Jeannie is also trained in Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization Technique and received certification in using the tools. She is a member of NBCOT and OTAC. Her husband Jeremy is a metal sculptor/artist and she has a daughter Sasha, married to John living in Austin, TX and a son Paul and his wife Liz who live in Japan.

Jessica Hall, M.S. CCC-SLP

Jessica hails from West Bountiful, UT, and she moved with her husband to set their roots in Lamar, CO. She received her Bachelors from Utah State University in Communication Sciences and Disorders and her Masters in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of Utah. Jessica has developed a wide range of specialties since moving to Lamar and covers services for infants, children, youth, adults, and seniors. She is certified to use Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation for swallow rehab and LAMP to assist with speech generating devices. Additionally, she treats communication, cognitive, and swallowing impairments due to: developmental delays, aging stroke, Parkinson’s disease, dementia, traumatic brain injury, and autism. When Jessica is not at work, she enjoys singing, hiking with her husband and dog, reading and cooking.

Annelle Barrow, PTA

Annelle has been a PTA since 1992 and joined the team at Prowers Medical Center in October 1997. She is originally from Lamar and has two children Rian and Jaileen. She obtained an AAS in Pre Physical Therapy from Lamar Community College (LCC) and an AAS for Physical Therapy Assistant from Pueblo Community College (PCC). She has specialty training in vestibular rehabilitation with expertise in body mechanics and posture. She enjoys swimming, yard work, singing, and remodeling.

Tasha Spencer, PTA, BA

Tasha is originally from Blue Earth, Minnesota. She earned her AAS degree for Physical Therapist Assistant from Riverland Community College, Albert Lea, MN and holds a certification in the state of Colorado. Tasha graduated from Adams State University with her BA in Business Administration in May 2009. She has received the PTA Recognition of Advanced Proficiency in Musculoskeletal Physical Therapy. Tasha is also trained in Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization Technique and received certification in using the tools. In addition, Tasha is the Cultural Competency Advisory Committee Chair at PMC. Her clinical expertise and training includes sports medicine, manual therapy and orthopedics. She has been a part of the Prowers Medical Center Rehabilitation team since 1996. Tasha enjoys all sports and outdoor activities.

Lori Denman, PTA, Rehabilitation Services Manager

Lori is originally from Lamar, CO and earned her AAS degree as a Physical Therapist Assistant in 1995 from Colby Community College, Colby, KS. She has been employed by Prowers Medical Center since November 2005. Lori enjoys working with the geriatric population. She is married to Dan Denman and they have two daughters, Kristen Martinez and Ashleigh Denman. Lori loves “projects” and considers herself a part-time DIY-er, meaning that some projects never get done.  She also enjoys reading, gardening, interior design, walking, and spending time with her family (both two and four legged).

Jared Smith, PTA

Jared is originally from Lamar, Colorado. He earned his AAS for Physical Therapist Assistant from Pueblo Community College in 2010. Jared’s education did not stop there. He continued on to become a Certified Personal Trainer, First Responder, as well as, a Certified Clinical Instructor for Arapahoe Community College. The majority of Jared’s experience consists of orthopedic outpatient rehabilitation. He has had the opportunity to provide physical therapy to professional mountain bikers, high level skiers and collegiate athletes. He is excited to bring his dynamic and functional training experience to the fine people of Lamar and the surrounding area. In his spare time, Jared enjoys working on his house, cycling, and camping adventures with his dog, Gracie.

Ramona Moreno, Receptionist

Ramona is originally from Holly, CO and graduated from Holly High School in 1996 and Lamar Community College in 1999. She has worked at PMC since December 2006. She is married to Juan Moreno and has three wonderful children – Marina, Juan, and Omar. She enjoys reading and playing indoor and outdoor soccer and volleyball. She also enjoys attending her children’s soccer and softball.

Meranda Jaramillo, Receptionist

Meranda is originally from Trinidad, Colorado. She graduated from Trinidad State Junior College in 2007. She has studied Pre-Law, Criminal Justice and Early Childhood Education from Trinidad State Junior College, Lamar Community College and CSU-Pueblo. Meranda has been a resident of Lamar since 2008. She is married to Estevan Jaramillo and has one daughter, Aalia. She enjoys reading, singing and spending time with her family. She also enjoys her daughter’s love for cheerleading and dance. Meranda has been a member of the PMC Rehab Team since July 2014.

Laura Monson, Receptionist

Laura is originally from Golden, CO. She graduated from Golden Sr. High School in 1989 and received her Certificate in Bookkeeping/ Accounting from Lamar Community College 2010 (Cum Laude). Laura has been living in Lamar since 2006. She is married to Daniel Monson, has one biological daughter, Dru, two adopted girls, Vanessa and Jessica and four grandchildren.  She enjoys reading, playing with her grandkids and walking with Dan and their dogs. She has worked at Prowers Medical Center since April of 2016 and started in the Rehabilitation department in July of 2017.
