Laboratory

Convenient lab testing for your health needs

Test tubes with patient blood samples waiting to be checked in the Prowers Medical Center Lab

Lab tests are used to analyze blood, urine and other tissues and substances in your body to monitor for health conditions and disease. Regular lab panels let you and your provider track changes in your health over time and watch for markers of disease. Prowers Medical Center offers extensive diagnostic lab and pathology tests. Certified phlebotomists and lab technicians perform blood draws and run diagnostic tests. Most lab tests, including those for general health, emergency and trauma, are run in house, with pathology and other specialized tests sent to lab partners in the region. Turnaround times on lab tests are usually quick, with results in as little as a few days.

The lab is prepared for routine outpatient transfusion and trauma situations, and keeps 28 units of red blood cells and 20 units of plasma on hand in our blood bank.

Equipment Used

Prowers Medical Center has an up to date PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) analyzer which utilizes NAAT (Nucleic Acid Amplification Testing) to shorten the time between when a patient has been infected and when a positive/negative result is obtained. The polymerase chain reaction (PCR) is a technology in molecular biology used to amplify a single copy or a few copies of DNA across several orders of magnitude, generating thousands of copies of a particular DNA sequence.

Annual Health Fair

The annual Prowers Medical Center Heath Fair provides a great opportunity for people to get an in-depth health screening at an affordable cost. We have worked hard through the years to keep labs affordable, yet comprehensive. For $25 you receive several tests, including: a CBC (complete blood count), glucose, uric acid, liver enzymes, bone health & thyroid screens, Hemoglobin A1C, lipid panel and more. For an extra $10, men can receive a PSA screening test for prostate cancer. Watch for the health fair each spring in April.
