More Providers, More Availability

The Prowers Medical Center Clinic just keeps getting better and better, thanks to enormous efforts by the hospital to improve efficiencies and quality. A year ago, the Clinic was extensively surveyed by the State of Colorado and received a rare, zero-deficiency rating. It didn’t stop there. The hospital keeps making improvements. Most recently, they’ve added three providers to the Clinic so patients can be seen more quickly and have more provider options.

More Providers

“We’ve got more providers available every day of the week and every hour of the day,” said Dawn Watts, Prowers Medical Center Clinic Manager.

Having more providers has opened up additional appointments during the day. That means if you call to set an appointment you will likely be seen that same day or the next. The same holds true for walk-in times.

Expanded Walk-in Times

Walk-in times have been expanded. While the Clinic’s hours will stay the same (Monday – Thursday, 7 am to 7 pm), now you can walk in and be seen between 7 am and 8:30 am in the morning, and between 5 pm and 7 pm at night. The Clinic has doubled the number of providers during these times to ensure more efficient care. The Clinic is open 7 am to 5 pm on Fridays with early morning walk-in visits. Walk-in visits are also available Saturdays from 8 am to noon.

What’s great is that you’ll be able to see some of the providers you know and appreciate—Gary Peterson, FNP, who has been at the clinic sporadically will now be available full time. Kimberly Collymore, FNP, who has seen patients in La Junta and Las Animas, and Meagan Hillman, PA-C, a known provider in town and in Las Animas, will also be available full time.

Likely you know Meagan Hillman, PA-C as she’s a familiar face around town. She and her family have lived in Lamar eight years, settling here because they like the community and believe it’s a great place to raise kids. If you don’t recognize her from her work as a physician assistant, then likely you know her family as the ones who own the alpaca ranch north of town.

Meagan’s husband Jeff Hillman is a “jack of all trades” and as she puts it, the “chief chore doer” on their alpaca ranch, which they raise for fiber but mostly as pets. When not tending to alpacas or kids, Jeff works as an auto mechanic, with NAPA Auto Parts in town, and for a towing company. Their kids, Annie (11), Isaiah (13) and Sam (14) all love sports. Annie plays volleyball and the boys are looking forward to basketball season.

Hillman has been a practicing PA for nearly 18 years. She grew up in Denver, attended Colorado State University in Fort Collins, and completed her PA studies at Midwestern University in Illinois. While she enjoys women’s health and pediatrics, she says she loves to see patients of any age. She has quite a following, as patients appreciate her accessible, caring nature and her desire to team up with them to solve problems.

“I know this community well and really care for the people here. I’ve been seeing patients in Las Animas the past three years. It’s awesome to be back in town and practicing with such an excellent team of providers and staff here at Prowers Medical Center. I was pleasantly surprised by the culture here, it’s very positive, and a really open place to work,” Hillman said.

The Prowers Medical Center Clinic’s team of family physicians, nurse practitioners, and a physician assistant serve as your family’s primary healthcare provider, offering both acute and preventive care including annual exams, well-child exams and women’s health exams.
